Everyone’s favorite chain store has just debuted an important new line. Target’s furniture is designed for kids with sensory sensitivity, and it’s just as affordable and aesthetically pleasing as everything else in the store. Children who have sensory sensitivities require a certain amount of stimulus on their skin, and when they get either too much or too little stimulation, they may struggle with concentration or suffer from meltdowns.
The line was inspired by talking to customers about their unmet needs, both in-person and through the store’s app. Julie Guggemos, SVP of product design and brand management at Target, explained to Fast Company that parents of kids with sensory sensitivity shared that they often need to shop in high-priced specialty stores.
“We want all guests to feel welcome and included at Target. With our Cat & Jack and Universal Thread adaptive and sensory-friendly apparel, we’ve seen that little details can have a huge impact,” Guggemos told POPSUGAR.
The 20 items in the new collection range in price for $20 to $100 and include a weighted blanket, a chair that provides the sensation of being hugged, and desk chair designed to rock. For parents of children with sensory sensitivities (some of whom are on the autism spectrum), affordably-priced furniture to suit their child’s needs is a godsend. It’s difficult to live with this condition, and we’re glad to see that Target is offering an affordable way to make life just a little easier for kids and their parents.
