Etihad Airways is launching an app so you never have to feel jet lag again

Travelling across the globe is usually quite fun, but if you’re a jet setter or adventurous soul who regularly goes flying, it can also wreak havoc on your mental health.

Namely, due to jet lag.

For some people, flying can worsen anxiety and depression – for others, it makes them sluggish and tired for days or even weeks afterwards.

Etihad Airways is testing out a new solution to counteract feelings of jet lag with an app that offers passengers personalised advice on how to beat the lag.

So, how does it work?

First, the app will present a range of basic questions such as height, weight, circadian rhythm and the nature of your travel, as well as flight details including time, route and what time zones you’ll be going through.

It’ll cover every stage of your flight, from before you step on the plan to what to do once you’ve arrived at your destination, including sleep and hydration times, the level of light exposure, when to exercise and what kind of food to eat.

As well as providing a detailed plan, the app will present ‘jet lag impact scores’ – a brief on how bad the jet lag generally is on the route you’re taking.

‘Etihad is committed to providing choice and a superior experience to our guests, and we are continually looking at new ways to do just that,’ said Robin Kamark, Etihad Aviation Group chief commercial officer.
