From Marie Kondo touting the art of decluttering on her new show to the growing number of celebrities showing off their perfectly organized pantries on social media, being tidy has suddenly become a trend.

But unless you are naturally inclined to be neat, the thought of cleaning up your entire home can seem daunting at best. Instead of tearing into every room in your house, you should start with smaller tasks that will leave you feeling accomplished and ready to take on more.

Whether it’s cleaning out your junk drawer or finally organizing your growing pile of receipts, OfferUp, a mobile marketplace for local buyers and sellers, has rounded up what decluttering tasks people should take on this spring based on their zodiac signs.

One way to get organized! OfferUp, a mobile marketplace for local buyers and sellers, has rounded up what decluttering tasks people should take on based on their zodiac signs

‘This year, so many people have taken interest in the life-changing KonMari Method, asking themselves if the items they’ve been holding on to spark joy,’ said Caitlin Roberts, a KonMari Method master consultant.

‘Frequently, my clients are surprised with the amount of things they’ve kept that no longer serve them. It gives people comfort when they resell their stuff through marketplaces like OfferUp, because they can give their things a new life and a new home. Tidying up allows people to rediscover and fall in love with their space again.’

One-third of Americans will spend a full day or more cleaning out their homes, according to OfferUp’s new spring cleaning survey, and most will agree that nothing feels better than walking into a tidy pace.

Interestingly enough, 48 per cent of those surveyed said the bedroom is the first room they declutter, but the most obvious choice isn’t always the best one — or the most fun to tackle.

OfferUp has put a spin on spring cleaning by coming up with different areas people should start decluttering based on their zodiac signs. The goal is to allow your personality — or the traits that are associated with your sun sign — to shine through while taking on a mundane task such as cleaning out your storage drawer.

Whether or not it will make cleaning more fun for those who consider themselves organizationally challenged, it certainly can’t hurt.

Say goodbye: Leos should consider emptying out their closets and dressers this spring and getting rid of anything that doesn’t spark joy (FILE PHOTO)

Aries (March 21 — April 19) – Sports Gear

The first sign of the zodiac is ruled by Mars, the planet of desire, action, and energy. Aries are impulsive, passionate, and sometimes bossy, but they never have any problem stealing the spotlight.

They are adventurous people who love to experience new things, which means they probably have a lot of sports equipment lying around. According to OfferUp, Aries should work on decluttering their growing collection this spring.

‘With the most energy of the bunch, Aries love to walk on the wild side and try new activities that get their blood pumping,’ the company explained. ‘By this point, they probably have a collection of sports and workout equipment pouring out from all corners of the hallway closet, and it’s time to take back that space.’

Taurus (April 20 — May 20) – Kitchen Gadgets

Taurus is the stable, practical, and down-to-earth sign of the zodiac that puts great thought and effort into their relationships. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, a Taurus wants the best of everything and to enjoy life as much as possible.

Great food is important for those who are born under this sign and cooking is something that comes naturally to them. However, their love of food and the latest and greatest gadgets can lead to some clutter in the kitchen.

‘With awesome kitchen appliances like the sous vide, KitchenAid Stand Mixers, and automatic wine bottle openers, it can be tough to limit your countertops to just a few items,’ OfferUp said.

‘Tauruses are particularly skilled at cooking because they’re so patient and like to spend the time creating beautiful and delicious meals rather than just whip up something quick.

‘That being said, they’re also likely to load up on things they might need rather than just stick to what they’ll use regularly. If you’re a Taurus that’s guilty of appliance hoarding, sell those unused items on to other homes.’

Say goodbye to spam! Most Capricorns are tidy by nature, but this spring they can go one step further and start organizing their email

Gemini (May 21 — June 20) – Phone

Gemini is the most sociable, communicative, and versatile sign of the zodiac. The sign is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, technology, and the mind, so it’s no wonder Geminis are social butterflies.

People who were born under this sign like to flaunt every aspect of their life and keep busy with texts, emails, and instant messages. Most Geminis cellphones are packed with pictures, videos, and apps to keep them in constant communication.

‘We’re all guilty of having way too much stuff stored on our phones, but Geminis are especially,’ OfferUp noted. ‘As the social butterflies of the zodiac, they want to be connected to the people in their lives, and that means social media of every kind and thousands upon thousands of videos and pictures.

‘They can back up their device or pick up a flash drive intended for phones to create the space they need or consider selling old phones.’

Cancer (June 21 — July 22) – Old Photos

Cancers are caring, sensitive, and nostalgic by nature. Because they are nurturing and protective of others, they tend to act like an unofficial mom to everyone in their life.

Ruled by the ever-changing moon, Cancers tend to be moody and are constantly changing their emotions. They can also get stuck reminiscing about the past if they’re not too careful.

‘Cancers are a sentimental bunch — after all, they’re the “moms” in every friend group. Just like our parents, they love to hang on to sentimental mementos which leads to their cabinets overflowing with pictures from the past,’ OfferUp said.

‘Because technology has advanced to the point where we have things like Google PhotoScan, keeping physical copies of all of those precious memories is more of a potential risk than a long-term solution.’

The company suggested that cancers spend a weekend uploading old pictures somewhere secure, and then selling their old storage items.

Leo (July 23 — August 22) – Clothes

Leos are confident, demanding, and leaders of the zodiac. The sign is ruled by the Sun, so it should come as no surprise that Leos like to be the center of attention.

Those who are born under this sign are natural-born leaders, but their need for praise and appreciation may make them come off as self-centered. Leos tend to be spontaneous, and they typically don’t think twice about buying a new outfit on a whim if they think it will boost their appearance.

Unsurprisingly, these impulses can lead to a cluttered closet.

‘Leos are carefree. While this is a good quality to have in life, it’s not a good quality to have when it comes to budgeting, which means they’re more likely to see something in a store window and buy it on a whim,’ OfferUp explained.

‘To the Leo, the world, and everything in it, is theirs for the taking — even if it’s the last item on the rack. That whim can lead to having a few too many pieces of clothing, so for spring cleaning this year, Leos should consider emptying out their closets and dressers and saying sayonara to everything that no longer sparks joy.’

Virgo (August 23 — September 22) – Purse / Backpack

Virgos are shy, analytical, and perfectionists. They don’t speak unless they have something worthy to say.

Ruled by Mercury, the planet of mind and communication, Virgos are detail-oriented and have a tendency to analyze everything. Those who are born under this sign are also drawn to service and are never one to shy away from helping someone in need.

‘If there’s anything a Virgo loves, it’s preparedness,’ OfferUp said. ‘Their desire to help others is so strong, they’re keen to load up on random supplies in the small chance that someone they encounter will need it. That’s why their purses and backpacks are always chock full of unnecessary stuff.

The company suggested that Virgos make it a point to clean out their purses and backpacks this spring and take out anything they don’t need.

Libra (September 23 — October 22) – Makeup

Libras are diplomatic, sociable, and artistic. They are social butterflies who love connecting with others.

The sign is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, and like Venus-ruled Taurus, Libras love to be surrounded by beauty and art. However, they have a tendency to get caught in the moment and leave things in the strangest of places.

‘Libra’s mantra when it comes to makeup: be there a spot for it, lest it be stored,’ OfferUp said. ‘You’ll sometimes find makeup in the strangest of places in a Libra’s life: lining medicine cabinets or tucked away in their car’s center console.

‘No need to be alarmed, they always remember what goes where if there’s something you want to try,’ the company added. ‘This year, Libras should finally start to make decisions on the products they like the most and get rid of everything that was underwhelming for their adventurous nights on the town.’

Scorpio (October 23 — November 21) – Hallway Closet

Scorpios are passionate, deep, and mysterious, portraying either a funny or flirty side depending on their mood.

Ruled by Pluto, the plant of power and control, Scorpios have an incredible capacity for concentration, but they have to to be careful not to get too obsessed with their projects.

While most signs are advised to focus on decluttering smaller spaces this spring, OfferUp said Scorpios should put their focus on a big space like the hallway closet because they ‘love to get their hands dirty and tackle challenging problems.’

‘To a Scorpio, there would be no greater challenge this year than solving the puzzle that is the hallway closet…except for the garage,’ the company said.

The worry is actually that they might get too out of hand with their cleaning.

‘Our advice for Scorpio is to try not to overdo it this year,’ OfferUp stressed. ‘Before they decide to sell something, they should consider Marie Kondo’s trick — if it sparks joy, keep it. If not, it’s time to sell!’

Making room: Dreamy Pisces should focus on decluttering their bookshelves (FILE PHOTO)

Sagittarius (November 22 — December 21) – Junk Drawer

Sagittarians are optimistic, adventurous, and humorous, which is what makes them so attractive to other people.

The sign is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansions and big things. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, so it’s fitting that Sagittarians also tend to have larger-than-life personalities.

Sagitarians love to travel spend a great deal of their time discovering new and interesting places.

‘To remember those adventures, they’ll usually try to pick up a souvenir or two without remembering they have nowhere to put it once they return home,’ OfferUp explained.

‘But, hiding their tools and treasures in closets and drawers is no solution. This year, the archer should shoot for a better storage solution, or sell off the items they don’t remember why they kept.’

Capricorn (December 22 — January 19) – Email Inbox

Capricorns are practical, patient, and matter of fact. Serious in nature, they like to portray an image of being successful.

The sign is ruled by Saturn, the planet of tough lessons and wisdom. Capricorns tend to be ‘old souls’ who are passionate about tradition and following the rules.

‘Capricorns are the type to enact a system and reward themselves with make-believe points received for daily productivity. Making the bed is ten points, getting to work on time is five, and so on,’ OfferUp explained.

Most Capricorns are neat freaks by nature, but this spring they can go one step further and start organizing their email.

‘For the determined Capricorn, finally going through their emails and getting rid of that annoying red notification would be the best reward’ the company said. ‘As they go through emails, they should take a look at what they’re subscribed to and unsubscribe to avoid this problem in the future.

‘For products and services they aren’t interested in anymore, take an extra step and sell off those unwanted products, too!’

Aquarius (January 20 — February 18) – Receipts

Aquarians are independent, eccentric, and innovative. They march to the beat of their own drum and can sometimes seem a bit ‘out there’ to the casual observer.

The sign is ruled by Uranus, the planet of freedom and revolutionary vision. Like Aquarians, Uranus stands out from the rest of the planets in the solar system as it is the only one that spins on its side.

In addition to being ahead of their time, Aquarians have a strong humanitarian streak and are always looking to help someone in need.

‘You’ll often find an Aquarius at the local farmer’s market purchasing handmade goods from struggling artists,’ OfferUp said. ‘To them, there’s no greater joy than supporting creative minds or the less fortunate, and it definitely doesn’t hurt that their charitable purchases can help them come tax season.

‘For those donation receipts, clear the clutter from file cabinets or wallets and pick up a receipt scanner to make the office truly clutter-free.’

Pisces (February 19 — March 20) – Books

The last sign of the zodiac is ruled by Neptune, the planet of dreams, fantasy, creativity, and illusion.

Pisces are creative, empathetic, imaginative, and spiritual. There is a part of them that always wants to escape reality, whether it is through physical activity or curled up with a good book.

‘As the calmest of the zodiac signs, Pisces love alone time to refresh and detach from the world,’ OfferUp said.

‘Many Pisces will retreat by doing something active, like going on a hike or practicing yoga, but for the Pisces who wants to spend a night in, picking up a new book is the perfect way to zen out.’

For Pisces whose shelves are looking a little bit too crowded with books they don’t plan on re-reading, the company suggests selling them online to make room for more.
