The Strictly Come Dancing professionals are aiming to pull the plug on YouTube – by banning stars from joining the hit BBC show.
The hard working trained professionals who guide the wide ranging conveyor belt of celebrities through the foxtrot, cha cha cha, and more are unimpressed that the BBC dropped standards to allow YouTube stars to be signed up in the 2018 series.
And now the Pros are petitioning the BBC to ban any future stars taking place – citing those with a strong online following hold an “unfair advantage” when it comes to competing on the show.
The unexpected attack seems to come after Joe Sugg managed to waltz all the way to the final of the 2018 series, despite rarely scoring above 30 with the judges.
“He wasn’t the best dancer, so his place on the show was purely based on his fanbase,” a source bitched to The Sun.
“Joe’s huge popularity caused some tension last year after he was being voted to stay in the show each week,” the loose lipped Strictly mole continued.
“Now the pros are going to unite and ask for no social media personalities for a year, to give everyone a level playing field,” they added.
More than 8 million people subscribe to Joe’s popular YouTube channel – with his most watched clip attracting more than 22 million views.
He also has 5.7 million followers on Instagram and over 5.4 millions followers on Twitter .
In contrast, Faye Tozer of Steps fame received top marks on the show, as did Ashley Roberts of the Pussycat Dolls, but Faye has no YouTube channel, only 160K Instagram followers and 97K followers on Twitter, while Ashley has 11K YouTube subscribers, and less than 1 million followers on Instagram and Twitter combined.
Joe, 27, failed to win Strictly, however, as the Glitterball Trophy was instead scooped by investigative journalist extraordinaire Stacey Dooley.
Joe did make off with a prize of sorts of his own, however, as his dance professional partner, Dianne Buswell, 29, ditched her boyfriend to embark on a romance with the Internet star.
He has since made Strictly history after being crowned winner of every single of the 25 Strictly live performances he has appeared on since featuring on the BBC One show last year.
