Rio Ferdinand leaves BT Sport panel in hysterics after cocky comment about his playing career

The Manchester United legend, 40, claimed he felt unstoppable for a decade while discussing Virgil van Dijk ahead of tonight's Champions League action.

Ferdinand was speaking ahead of Liverpool's crunch game against Bayern Munich when he made the hilarious comment.

With the panel speaking about the influence of Reds superstar Van Dijk, Ferdinand said: "He's the best centre-back around.

"There are times in your career when you think, 'nobody can beat me.'"

Host Gary Lineker quizzed Ferdinand over whether he ever felt that way, with Ferdinand replying: "For about ten years, yeah."

The comment left Lineker and pundits Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen – both former team-mates with United and England – in stitches as the Champions League clash prepared to kick off.

In the game itself, Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead in incredible manner to give Jurgen Klopp and Co a crucial away goal.

The Senegal star turned Manuel Neuer with a dazzling touch and then coolly lifted the ball over a hoard of defenders and into the net.

However, Joel Matip poked home an own goal as Bayern levelled up the game before half-time.
