Solskjaer won’t strengthen Man Utd defence in order to go all-out for £100m Jadon Sancho transfer

The Manchester United boss-in-waiting wants give his defenders a chance to prove themselves before addressing the problem areas.

Solskjaer's priority ahead of the summer is a right-winger, with SunSport revealing last month interest in England youngster Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.

United are also monitoring Juventus' Douglas Costa and are long-term admirers of Inter Milan wide man Ivan Perisic, who regularly plays on the left flank but is conformable on both wings.

At the back, United have Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, with Marcos Rojo returning from injury.

Solskjaer's instant impact since taking over in December has seen an upturn in form – and hope the Norwegian's coaching could save them from breaking the world-record for a defender in the summer.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been watched regularly at Napoli this season and would shatter the record of £75million paid by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk.

England star Harry Maguire was also on United’s radar last summer after his stunning World Cup – but Leicester were determined to keep their defender.

United dropped out of the top four on Sunday at the expense of Arsenal after they lost 2-0 to the Gunners at the Emirates.

Solskjaer's side face Wolves away in the FA Cup on Saturday as they look to book their place in the semi-finals.
