Man Utd and Chelsea pursuit of Icardi dealt serious blow with Real Madrid to offer £86m for Inter Milan outcast

That’s according to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, who report that the La Liga giants are ready to splash out for the want-away Inter Milan player.

Icardi, 26, has not featured for the Serie A club since a contract dispute saw him reportedly refuse to play in a Europa League match against Rapid Vienna.

The Argentinian was stripped of the club captaincy and has not featured for the San Siro side since.

And in a blow to Manchester United's hopes, Real will end his nightmare in Italy with a bid of 100 million euro (£86 million), Marca claim.

This will be music to the ears of both the player and his wife and agent, Wanda Nara, who was allegedly at the centre of Icardi’s dispute with Inter.

She was recently forced to deny that her behaviour had put off Madrid from making a bid for her husband, saying: “Mauro not having gone to Madrid because of me, as has been said, is false.

“We have a lot of respect for Real Madrid.”

Reports had suggested the striker was to be offered to United in a swap deal for Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea and Napoli were also said to have made enquiries about the striker, who had been valued at as little as 40 million euro (£34 million) just last month.

That would have been a snip for a player who has scored 133 goals in just 243 appearances for Sampdoria and Inter.

Real’s bid may recognise how in demand the player could be in summer, and reflect the need for them to bolster their striking options after a disappointing season.
