Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Two Windsor Estate Homes?

In less than one year of marriage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come into quite a bit of property. And, now, with a new home in Windsor, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are about to add one more royal residence to their list of assets. But, didn’t they just accept Queen Elizabeth’s generous Windsor Estate wedding gift, Adelaide Cottage last summer?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Windsor Estate homes

With all the hype around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s future family home, Frogmore Cottage, we almost forgot that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also have access to another property not too far from their new digs. Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle really have two homes on the same estate? Apparently so.

Following their royal wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly received a very nice wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got the keys to Adelaide Cottage, a historic Grade II listing on the Windsor Estate grounds. According to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had plans to move into their vacation home shortly after Her Majesty’s generous offer.

But, then, last fall, it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to move out of Kensington Palace and into a different property on the Windsor Estate. Since then, the royal couple has been busy renovating Frogmore Cottage, a 10-room mansion that was once used for staff housing. But, there’s no word on their plans for Adelaide Cottage (or if it’s still in their possession).

As with almost every royal residence, Adelaide Cottage is chock full of history. The Windsor Estate home initially served as King William IV’s wife, Queen Adelaide’s (hence the name) private retreat and incorporates parts of John Nash’s Royal Lodge. Architect and garden designer, Jeffry Wyatville oversaw the re-erect construction in 1831.

Perhaps the most enticing aspect of the home is its location. The historic abode sits across the way from Frogmore House, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle held their wedding reception last spring. But, that’s not the best part. The home is the perfect escape from city life, as it sits on the private 655-acre Royal Park, surrounded by gorgeous trees and greenery.

Frogmore Cottage is a chance for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to completely customize a royal residence. Since it doesn’t feel as historic as Adelaide Cottage and has been used as staff housing, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex probably feel less pressure to keep certain features such as the flooring or a fireplace (though we’re certain Meghan Markle appreciates an original fireplace).

Originally split into five separate units, Frogmore Cottage has been under extensive renovation to get it ready for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ahead of their royal baby’s due date. Once move-in ready, the home will feature 10 rooms with a yoga studio, nursery, and guest room for Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. Like Adelaide Cottage, it has plenty of room for outdoor play and privacy so that Baby Sussex can grow up outside the royal spotlight.
