Peter Wright is one of just three undefeated players ahead of Night Four in the Premier League, as he is looking to build on his positive start.
‘Snakebite’ reached the semi-finals of the Masters, before he embarked on his Premier League campaign which has featured draws with Rob Cross and Michael Smith and victory over Steve Lennon so far.
“It’s gone great. I’m only going to get better,” Snakebite said.
“I played Rob Cross, the reigning [world] champion. He was playing brilliant darts. Michael Smith who was the runner-up in the worlds and in the Premier League last year. To get a point out of those two guys, I’m happy.”
“It’s gone great. I’m only going to get better.”
Snakebite knows there’s room to improve
As he continues fine-tuning his game, Wright experimented with his darts in Dublin.
“This week I changed them,” he explained following his win on Night Three. “I’m getting ready for the UK Open. That’s what it is. I know what darts I need to win it.
“I’ve just got to shorten their point slightly and I’m happy.
“I tried them out for the UK Open and I’m quite happy because in parts I’ve been playing a little bit too fast. I settled myself in the match and got through it.”
With a disappointing early exit at the Alexandra Palace in December, Wright has started positively in 2019. Off the back of the two Premier League draws, he came to the Irish capital knowing he needed a win against contender Lennon.
Buoyed by his home crowd, the Irishman pushed the world number three all the way, but the Scot used his experience to get over the line.
“I’m happy with the win but I’m also pleased with the way Steve played, because he was under a lot of pressure in front of his own crowd,” said Wright. “I was in front of my own crowd last week and it’s a hell of a lot of pressure to perform. God damn did he perform in the first five legs! I was like ‘Am I going to get a chance?’ He was amazing.
“I’ll be watching him in the future with my feet up because he’s a fantastic player. He’s playing for his country, representing his country as well. He’s a lovely guy as well.
“He’s a fantastic player. Ireland’s got to look after him and keep him on board and get behind him like they did (on Thursday). He performed brilliantly under pressure.

“All these contenders can play darts. People thinking they’re up there to be whipping boys or whatever, they’re not. They’re the future of the Premier League. Giving them experience up there in front of amazing crowds, and amazing venues that we play in, it’s good.”
Wright faces Mensur Suljović on Night Four in Exeter, as he looks to keep up the chase at the top of the table and keep the pressure on Michael van Gerwen who is the only player with three wins from three.
