Teen Mom 2: Chelsea Houska's Husband Considers Adopting Stepdaughter Aubree After Her Ex Adam Lind Stops Visitations

Chelsea Houska and husband Cole DeBoer were faced with a tough decision on Monday night’s Teen Mom 2.

The couple revealed that Adam Lind, the father of Houska’s 9-year-old daughter Aubree Skye, had stopped his visitations, despite opportunities to spend time with his daughter.

Houska also shared that Lind had given up his paternal rights to his other daughter, Paislee, from a previous relationship with Taylor Halbur.

“Yesterday I got a phone call from Taylor and she said that her and Adam had court and he gave up rights to their daughter, Paislee,” Houska told MTV producer Mandi. “He can’t see her at all.”

DeBoer, who shares two other children with Houska — 2-year-old son Watson Cole and 6-month-old daughter Layne Ettie — said he couldn’t relate to Lind’s decision.

“That’s rock bottom. Look at this,” he said while gesturing to Layne in his arms. “Do you think anything would come between this? Yeah right. How could you have this, watch them grow up and then go, yeah right. F— that.”

Houska explained that the judge had asked Lind if he truly wanted to give up his paternal rights to Paislee, adding that Halbur’s husband “adopted Paislee now, and that’s that.”

When Mandi asked the couple if that was something they wanted for Aubree, the two admitted it was something they’d considered.

“I think we should, I think she should know what’s going on or what happened,” Houska told Mandi. “I just think you gotta be careful about how you word it, it’s confusing to her. Do we bring up that it’s an option for her as well?”

Turning to her husband, she said, “You could adopt her.”

“I mean, yeah. I’d do it right now if she wants to. I’d never make her do anything,” DeBoer said.

While Houska said she felt DeBoer adopting Aubree would be best, she agreed it would have to be her daughter’s decision.

“It’s hard because we know what we feel is the best for her. I feel what is best for her is if he was completely out of the picture instead of in and out,” she said. “I think she’s old enough now where you can’t just make that decision for her.”

Houska also consulted her father, Randy, during a heartfelt conversation in which she revealed she’d explained Paislee’s adoption to Aubree and asked if that was something she would want.

“She was confused, she wanted to know if Paislee was still her sister,” Houska said of her off-camera conversation with her daughter. “It kind of made her sad. I said, ‘Is that something you’d ever want?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ And then she’s like, ‘Wait, would that mean that my dad is not my dad anymore?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, he wouldn’t really be your dad like that anymore.’ And she said, ‘Well then I don’t think I want to [do it].”

Randy shared his thoughts on the matter, telling Houska he didn’t think it was a good idea.

“She’s already got your name,” he said, referring to Aubree’s dual last name of Lind DeBoer. “Just go with the flow and just do what you’re doing. You can’t push it because if you force it she might resent [you].”

“Just keep answering questions. As she gets older, her brain matures, she’ll know,” he added. “At some point, the answer will become more clear.”

During the show’s sixth season, Houska was embroiled in a custody battle with Lind over Aubree. He wanted joint custody, while Houska wanted to keep the custody arrangement they had. In March 2015, the court ruled that Houska would retain full custody and that Lind would be able to see her during supervised visits.

In December 2017, Lind was arrested for violating a no-contact order. Lind was also previously arrested for driving under the influence as well as driving without a license, which was talked about on Teen Mom 2. He also tested positive for methamphetamines during an August 2017 episode of the reality TV show.

“It’s very serious — and it is scary,” DeBoer told an MTV producer at the time. “If I had my choice, I don’t want her in the house because he’s doing drugs. Obviously, he’s probably doing them at his house, you know? I mean, hopefully, his parents were doing their supervision … so that she didn’t see much.”

Teen Mom 2 airs Mondays (9 p.m. ET) on MTV.
