The Portuguese tactician announced he intends to return to football this summer after being sacked by Manchester United in December.
But Mourinho insists he will only join a club which provides “internal empathy” – just like he had when he won the Treble with Inter Milan in 2010.
The Special One has suffered a number of high-profile fall-outs throughout his career, most notably at Chelsea, Real Madrid and United.
And he wants to make sure his next employer provides a great working environment, thereby avoiding any conflict which can have dire consequences on the pitch.
Mourinho has already snubbed an offer to return to his homeland to manager Benfica.
And the 56-year-old adds he also wants to be managing at the highest level for every trophy available, with ambition also top of his list of demands.
Mourinho told The Telegraph: “I don’t want an internal conflict. I want internal empathy.
“And then your conflict is on Sunday on the pitch when you play against somebody who wants to steal your three points. That’s the moment of the conflict.
“I don’t know if it is a bad translation from Portuguese to English, but focus on these two words: ‘structure’ and ‘empathy’. I want to work with structural empathy.
“If it is a club without ambition I wouldn’t go. I refused [Benfica] because I want high-level football and ambitions at the highest level.
“I want to work with people that I love. I don’t want to be in a permanent contradiction between what I think and the others think.”
