Neymar confident PSG can win the Champions League as Brazil star steps up recovery

The world most expensive player has been sidelined for eight games following a foot injury he picked up at the end of last month.

The Brazilian forward was forced to watch on from the sidelines as his PSG side beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League tie last week.

Speaking on behalf of the Red Bull Neymar Jnr's Five competition, the 27-year-old praised his “genius” coach Thomas Tuchel and backed his side to go all the way in Europe's elite competition.

Neymar said: “PSG is not just about me – it has an awesome team with great athletes and a genius coach, and the fans are like a 12th player when we are playing in Paris.

“I have no doubts that we will be champions and that I will be playing.”

Neymar has netted an amazing five Champions League goals in six appearances this term – though Kylian MBappe and Presnel Kimpembe stepped up at Old Trafford last week.

Following a road to fitness, PSG's No10 posted videos on his social media to update fans on his recovery.

The Brazilian star posted videos training on a bicycle as he looks set to be sidelined until in March – and vowed to learn from the recovery he went through after a metatarsal fracture.

Neymar said: “The treatment has just begun.

“It will be a long journey and I will have little victories day by day. I have played football since I was a little child so it's very hard to be away from football.

“In 2018, I faced something similar and I know how bad it is, but that experience made me stronger and more prepared to face what's coming now.”
