BBC confirms The Greatest Dancer will return for second series

The Greatest Dancer is set to return for a second series, the BBC has confirmed.

Tonight, 14-year-old Ellie Ferguson scooped £50,000 and an elusive spot on Strictly Come Dancing after being crowned the first ever champion.

At the end of tonight’s episode the show announced that it would be returning to screens in 2020 for the second series.

BBC Entertainment Controller Kate Phillips said: "We wanted a big joyful show that celebrated extraordinary and memorable dancers of all ages and from all backgrounds and that’s exactly what we got.

"Everyone worked so hard on the show and we can’t wait to go again and see who will manage to open our magnificent mirror!"

This comes after Oti Mabuse’s act Ellie admitted that she was "speechless" after her name was announced, beating favourites Harry and Eleiyah.

Ellie was in tears as she told host Alesha Dixon: "It has been the most amazing experience of my life and I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support. So thank you so much to everyone."

As Oti proudly clapped while swiping tears away, Alesha asked how she felt about performing on Strictly.

"Amazing, I can’t believe it," she said.

Meanwhile Oti said: "It’s all been her, it’s nothing to do with me. She just came out here and did her best every single week.

"Ellie You’re so deserving, I’m so proud of you!"
