Amy Stanley, from Australia, revealed on Facebook group Lunchbox Mums, that the young girl was told to “bring less food so she has more time to play” – even though she's just a slow eater.
The creative mum posted a shot of her elaborately packed lunches, which have colourful food in different sections.
She wrote on Facebook: “Should I approach the teacher? Leave it? Pack her what the teacher wants?
“She IS a slow eater, but we have 50:50 custody of her. On the week she’s not with us she gets a sandwich, packet of crisps & an apple. Every day.
“She tells me all the time that it’s not enough, that she’s hungry and loves the lunches we pack for her.”
Amy explained that her young daughter, who is aged around six, eats all of the food in her lunch box, and nothing goes to waste.
The dilemma sparked a debate among mums on the site, with many jumping to her defence.
One wrote: “If she’s hungry then she gets less play. Better not being hungry!”
Another added: “Definitely stand up for her! If you don’t no one else will.”
And one said: “Always better to have more than not enough!”
Meanwhile, one woman offered a different perspective.
She commented: “Hi! I’m a teacher and I completely understand all sides of this one. I’d suggest talking to the teacher.
“Some children get upset if they don’t get enough play time, some children are happy to sit and eat throughout the entire break, some children tell different adults different things for various reasons.
“You may find that the teacher can give you some more insight given the teacher is spending 6 hours each day with your child.
“I am sure with open communication you will be able to figure out something that works for everyone.”
