Slick Woods has a huge reason to show off her signature gap-toothed smile!
The 22-year-old model revealed on Monday night that her mother Vonnya-Leah Mason was finally released from prison after nearly 20 years behind bars.
“Cried a lot ? Me n mom, fresh out after 17 years of prison ?,” Woods, whose real name is Simone Thompson, captioned the happy shot of the strikingly similar-looking mother-daughter duo.
Mason, 36, who gave birth to her daughter when she was just 14-years-old, had been serving a prison sentence for manslaughter, according to The Guardian.
She entered the Northern California prison at age 19, leaving Woods, who was 4-years-old at the time, under the care of her grandmother.
Woods’ life, however, was still far from stable as she and her grandmother bounced back and forth between Los Angeles and Minneapolis, and often lived in motels and cars, The Guardian reported.
“I never really had a childhood,” Woods told the outlet in April 2018. “My mother went to prison when I was four. I was on my own.”
Despite being behind bars, Woods made sure to prioritize her relationship with her mother, who had a troubling past, by having their allotted 15-minute conversations three times each day, according to Elle.
“We talk about everything — except modeling. She asks me how my day is. We don’t need to talk about magazines,” she told the magazine in July 2018. “Being a gang member, everybody expected her not to be the best mum. But my mum was very hands-on with me as a child. My mummy read to me in the womb.”
The style icon, who is currently the face of Rihanna‘s Fenty Beauty and Fenty X Puma lines, was also confident that when the day finally came, she would be there to help her mother after being released.
“She’s proud because she knows that everybody expected me to be exactly what she was,” she added to Elle. “She went to prison when she was 19. I became a model at 19. And I can take care of my mother when she gets out.”
Besides her mother’s release from prison, the model has also had another reason to smile as of late.
In September, Woods and her boyfriend, fellow model Adonis Bosso, welcomed their first child, son Saphir.
Saphir’s arrival came hours after his mom was in labor as she strutted down the Savage x Fenty runway during New York Fashion Week.
“A lewk, 14 hours of labor, and A king is born,” Woods wrote Friday alongside two photos of herself from the show. “This is the face of a WOMAN in labor, we hold s— down most of us don’t even know how much we’re going through.”
“I’m here to say I CAN DO WHATEVER THE F— I WANT WHENEVER THE F— I WANT AND SO CAN YOU,” she ended the empowering message. “Thank you @qualityresusqueen and the Fenty family for taking such good care of us.”
