Mystery after British tourist, 28, found dead in Philippines hotel room

Police are investigating after a British tourist was found dead in a hotel room in the Philippines.

The man, believed to be 28, died at the Larmar Bed and Breakfast Inn on the island of Puerto Princesa.

His body was discovered on Monday after he didn’t respond to a breakfast wake up call.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office told Mirror Online: "We are in touch with the local authorities in the Philippines following the death of a British man."

Hotel receptionist Marilyn Serenso said she went to his room to do a wake up call for breakfast but there was no response.

"There were no sounds inside so I peered through an open window and saw his body on the bed," Marilyn told police.

Officers arrived at the hotel shortly after the emergency call was made at 7:45am by the hotel owner’s daughter, Rachel Lardino.

Police are now investigating how he died, but said on Wednesday that they do not believe foul play was involved because "all his belongings were intact".

A police report into the incident said that staff at the bed and breakfast also called the Kilos Agad Action Center (KAAC) to ask for help.

The group of rescue workers responded and confirmed that the Brit was already dead "as his body was already stiff and cold."

Police Investigator John Rey Halog said officers arrived at the hotel and sealed off the area as part of the crime scene investigation.

He said: "Police proceeded to the area and initiated contact with the British Embassy and requested crime scene investigation from the City Crime Laboratory Office (CCLO)."

Inspector Rey Aron Elona, spokesperson of the PPCPO Station 1, said that there did not appear to be no foul play because his belongings were all "intact."

He said: "There was no sign of a robbery or theft. All of the foreign national’s belongings and valuables seemed to be there. We will now try to establish the cause of death.

"We don’t believe it was foul play but we would still like to remove all possibilities."
