Jennifer Lawrence's Surprise Engagement Leaves Twitter Fans Stunned and Disappointed

A rep for the actress confirms she is engaged to her boyfriend of eight months, art dealer Cooke Maroney.

It was quite a blow for many Jennifer Lawrence fans on Tuesday night when her reps confirmed that she had gotten engaged.

There was a remarkable consistency in people disappointed that their own pipe dream fantasies of a life with Jennifer Lawrence have been dashed by her settling into a real romance by getting engaged to her boyfriend of eight months, art dealer Cooke Maroney.

The couple was first noticed as a thing this past summer when they were spotted getting cozy together in June. A couple of months later, they were holding hands in Paris and Rome.

There have been pretty regular date nights and intimate moments of the two captured by the paparazzi since, but Lawrence had been keeping things uncharacteristically quiet.

Page Six was first to report that the couple might have gotten engaged, spotting what appeared to be a large engagement ring on Lawrence’s finger. By Tuesday night, representatives for Lawrence had confirmed the engagement to People.

While Lawrence was far more public during her relationships with Nicholas Hoult and Darren Aronofsky, she chose a quieter courtship, and it appears to have paid off. Ironically, one of their more public outings was to the recent premiere of "The Favourite" at the New York Film Festival, which just happens to star Hoult.

This courtship perhaps-not-coincidentally coincides with Lawrence’s planned year away from Hollywood which saw her maintaining a lower public profile already.

As news of their engagement, with a wedding reportedly coming relatively soon, broke wide her fans flocked to Twitter to offer their love and support, some occasional surprise that she might ever marry, and a lot of lamentation from fans that this meant she would definitely not be marrying them.
