Dorval Oldtimers hockey tournament nets $40,000 for West Island charities

The Dorval Oldtimers hockey tournament wrapped up Sunday after a week full of games.

Sixteen hockey teams with some players maybe a little past their prime, took to the ice battling it out in a round-robin style tournament.

This is the 33rd annual charity event put on by organizers.

Proceeds from the event’s silent auction and local sponsors all get collected to raise funds for local West Island charities and minor sports programs.

According to Dorval Oldtimers Hockey league president, Denis O’Niell, this year’s volunteer-run event was a success.

“There is a lot of camaraderie and good hockey, ” O’Niell said.

Players aged from 35 years-old and up participated in the scrimmages.

“There is a nice mix of hockey players and it’s a lot of fun,” O’Niell said.

O’Niell expects to raise $40,000 in donations.

The money raised will be distributed to local charities at a local community event in May.
