Waterloo police arrest man after destructive rampage in downtown Kitchener

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who went on a rampage in downtown Kitchener on Wednesday.

Police say that around 1:10 a.m., the man threw a chair through the window of a business on Ontario Street.

All was then quiet until around 6:40 p.m. when he began to damage property at other homes and businesses in the area using “tools of opportunity,” Const. Andre Johnson  said.

Johnson said the man would “use whatever he could get his hands on” to damage another eight homes or businesses in the area, before police managed to track him down at his last stop at 11 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Police say no one was injured during the destructive rampage and they are uncertain of the incidents’ cost.

They also could not provide a reason as to why the man damaged the homes and businesses on Wednesday.

The suspect has been charged with 10 counts of mischief under $5,000.
