Twitter user @Ben_Dudley010 was captured by Wijnaldum after tweeting how he was “99%” sure the Dutch midfielder was sat behind them.
Wijnaldum, 28, shared an Instagram story where he catches the tweeter red handed.
The tweet read: “I'm 99% sure Georginio Wijnaldum is on my EasyJet flight. Am I going to embarrass myself by saying Feyenoord with an awkward thumbs up on the way out? Almost certainly.”
After realising he had been caught, the tweeter later got a picture with Wijnaldum, and said: “About to catch the train to Bangor. If Van Dijk is in the same carriage I'm saying nothing.”
Fans reacted to Wijnaldum’s hilarious Instagram story on Twitter.
One said: “I think you should’ve tapped him on the shoulder and then said hiya.
"Saves him waiting till you got off the plane haha then let him have a selfie with you.”
Another added: “How the hell did @GWijnaldum manage to record him while he was still typing out the tweet? That's some eagle eyed observation by Gini!”
Wijnaldum missed Liverpool’s 4-3 home win against Crystal Palace last week due to a knee injury he sustained a week earlier against Brighton.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club website he hopes for Wijnaldum to train today and access his problem after that.
Klopp said: “Gini is good, better, the plan is that he will have one session today and then we have to see how he reacts on that. Hopefully we can build from that point.”
Liverpool sit four points clear at the Premier League with champions Manchester City chasing.
