Ched Evans hit with two-match ban for abusive language after denying the charge

The striker was also fined £2,500 for his outburst at the referee having originally denied FA charges.

Evans was sent-off by Brett Huxtable in the 55th-minute of the game for a tangle with Tom Lockyer.

The former Sheffield United forward was given a straight red for the incident, despite having already been booked in the first half.

But today an FA statement read: "Ched Evans will serve a two-match suspension with immediate effect following a charge for using abusive and/or insulting words towards the match referee after Fleetwood Town’s match against Bristol Rovers on 22 December 2018.

"The striker denied the charge but it was subsequently found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission. He has also been fined £2,500."

Evans' boss, Joey Barton, was also given a ban and fined for his behaviour during the game.

The Fleetwood manager was sent-off following Rovers' late winner and was also scathing of the referee, calling the decision to dismiss Evans "very unjust"

Barton claimed: "We must appeal it because it is a very unjust decision.

"It is as bad a refereeing and officiating performance as I have ever seen in all my time in the game."
