FRISCO, Texas – In giving up their 2019 first-round draft pick in an October trade with the Raiders for Amari Cooper, the Cowboys put their faith in the wide receiver to help vault a struggling 3-5 team to the playoffs.
Seven wins in nine games later, Dallas’ NFC East title and wild-card matchup with the Seahawks is the fruition of that hope.
But coming off a three-game skid during which Cooper has been held to 32 or fewer yards and no scores in each contest, another suspicion arises.

“The brought me here to make plays,” Cooper said Wednesday after practice. “I believe I can do that.”
Cooper points to a Seahawks defense that frequently uses a single-high safety look as one reason he remains confident. It was against comparable coverage that on Thanksgiving he powered crisp route-running and separation to a touchdown of 40 yards. He took another 90 in the win.
