Grisly find by hunters sparks murder probe

A human skull and bones found by two hunters in Texas may belong to a woman who died up to two years ago — and investigators are probing the find as a potential crack in a murder case.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the two hunters found what appear to be human remains during an outing off Ragle Road in Weatherford on Dec. 29.

The remains, which were scattered in a 50-yard radius throughout the property’s southwest corner, are likely those of a Hispanic female who experts believe died anywhere between nine months and two years ago, Fowler said.

A forensic anthropologist with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office believes that the victim was likely in her late 20s to early 30s, ranging from 4 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 3 inches tall.

Fowler said detectives in the case, including investigators with the Texas Rangers, are jointly probing the find as a murder case.

“We are searching every available database for a possible match to identify the victim,” Fowler said in a news release obtained by The Post.

A tattered, bright pink sash from a bathrobe was also found in “close proximity” to the remains, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputy Danie Huffman, a sheriff’s department spokeswoman, said a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Investigators are busy inputting the find into all local and federal databases available, she said.

Tips from the public have also already started coming in, although she declined to elaborate.

“We do encourage people to contact the sheriff’s office directly if they believe they have some relevant information,” Huffman told The Post.

Anyone with information about the identity of the victim is asked to call the Parker County Sheriff’s Office at (817) 594-8845.
