Best resorts for beach holidays

Cancun is a must for anyone who loves a party, but there are also plenty of family-friendly options if you’re thinking of taking the kids.

Looking for white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and palm tree-lined promenades? Then Playa Del Carmen needs to go top of your list. Expect a bustling oceanfront resort with endless beautiful shores, as well as bustling bars and restaurants for those wanting a fun night out.

Puerto Vallarta sits on the Pacific coast and tends to be a favourite with those who want an extra dose of culture and history during their trip. For those after an action-packed break there are plenty of watersports on offer – and the region boasts some incredible nightlife spots.

Best time to go

Mexico is an ideal winter sun destination, as its balmiest temperatures and sunniest weather tends to appear between December and April.

It’s worth noting that hurricane season falls between June to November, so sometimes you will find cheap deals around these months – but if it’s the postcard-worthy beaches you want, head during winter.

Go all-inclusive

Unless you’re after a cultural city break or want some flexibility to travel around, all-inclusive can make a good value option for getting the best bang for your buck.

Resorts like Cancun have some brilliant all-inclusive offerings – think hotels with plenty of pools, activities, restaurants and more. Excursions are usually available although for an extra fee, so it’s more of an option for those planning to make the most of a poolside break.

VISA

If you’re visiting Mexico as a tourist you don’t need a visa, but you’ll need to complete an immigration form  – make sure you have this with you when you enter, and keep the same piece of paper for when you want to leave Mexico.
