The Philadelphia Eagles’ medical staff is “suspect,” according to former linebacker Emmanuel Acho.
Acho’s playing career came to a close in 2015 after five NFL seasons, the final three spent with Philadelphia. He’s now a college and NFL analyst for ESPN. In the wake of quarterback Carson Wentz’s season possibly being over due to a fractured vertebrae, Acho spoke out about his experiences.
“It’s time for me to keep it real on the Eagles medical staff,” he said in a video posted to Twitter on Thursday afternoon. “First things first, have to establish, I’m not bitter. If I never would have gotten released several years ago, I wouldn’t be where — one of the youngest national analysts on ESPN.”
“Why did I say they were suspect?” he continued. “I knew a guy when I was playing, he had a torn ACL. He got told he had a tight hip flexor. I broke my thumb, completely fractured. I was told that pop was probably just scar tissue. These are just a couple of stories. I’m not going to put too many names to it.”
It’s not the first time Acho has criticized his former team, having taken shots at the Eagles following their 2017 draft pick of cornerback Sidney Jones.
With Wentz finally having figured out the root of his ailing back — he has played since first appearing on the Philadelphia injury report in Week 6 — Acho was ready to share his viewpoint again.
“Here’s what you have to remember: The training staff works for the team, not the players, so they have the team’s best interests in mind,” he said. “You, as a fantasy football owner … if you see a player hurt, you’d probably rush them out of there so you can win your fantasy football league. Now imagine, you’re the owner of a billion-dollar corporation. Anyway, that’s just my two cents, but yes, in my opinion, they’re suspect and it’s now proven why.”
