Mayim Bialak spent Thanksgiving with her ex–husband, Michael Stone— and his new girlfriend. While The Big Bang Theory star was happy Stone volunteered to host (no dishes to wash!) she was also a little bit apprehensive.
“I would be lying if I didn’t say I was nervous,” the 42-year-old wrote in a Tuesday, November 27, post on her blog Grok Nation. “I am single again and it was painful to be ‘alone.’” (Bialik never revealed the identity of her boyfriend.)
But the Blossom alum, who shares sons Miles, 13, and Frederick, 10, with Stone, pushed through her discomfort.
“Doing separate holidays seems excessive and sad. We are a family even though we are divorced,” Bialik shared. “I want to witness them eating the foods we make them and it feels good to sit at a table with them and their father.”
Though Bialik admitted “being single is a big change,” she is determined to stay positive. “Life can be painful. Loss is painful. But I’m forcing myself not to wallow in self-pity (which is something I could have easily earned a PhD in …),” she joked in the piece. “Pain does not have to paralyze us. It can be present while simultaneously moving forward. This year, it propelled me to my ex-husband’s house.”
The actress and Stone split in 2012 after nine years of marriage, but are committed to coparenting peacefully — even though it’s not always easy. At the moment, the two are planning Miles’ Bar Mitzvah.
“We’re often communicating in car rides, and between things,” Bialik, who partnered with Nectar Sleep, told Us Weekly on Tuesday. “And it’s different than being able to kind of lay next to someone and say, ‘Hey, did you remember to order the presents?”
Meanwhile, Bialik adores Stone’s new partner. “He has a fantastic girlfriend — truly. She’s delightful. And she wants her family intact even though they are also divorced,” Bialik explained in her blog. The actress also noted that she is hopeful that she will find love again, too.
“I am definitely the kind of person who really likes someone by my side,” the San Diego native told Us. “So yeah, that’s something I’m definitely open to. I think in general, it’s better not to be alone.”
