Copa Libertadores 2018 final new date: When and where is River Plate vs Boca Juniors being played?

The Superclasico final was initially set to take place on Saturday evening before the Boca coach was attacked with bricks by River fans, hospitalising visiting players.

After the incident, Conmebol reluctantly postponed their showpiece one day, but then decided the Boca players were still not fit to play the match.

When is the new date for the Copa Libertadores final?

Conmebol have confirmed the match will be played on Saturday, December 8 or Sunday, December 9.

That means the winner will have just a week before they fly out to the UAE to compete in the Fifa World Cup Cup.

The re-arranged match could not be played this week due to Argentina hosting the G20 summit.

In fact,  the reason the match was brought forward to last weekend in the first place was to ensure the two events didn't clash.

The move to postpone the game a second time marked a dramatic shift from South American football's governing body.

Under pressure from Fifa President Gianni Infantino, Conmebol had insisted the match be played on Saturday despite both clubs requesting a postponement.

Where will the Copa Libertadores final be played?

The Copa Libertadores final will NOT be held at River Plate's El Monumental stadium or indeed in Argentina in order to ensure the safety of the players.

Asuncion, Paraguay is now favourite to host the match, but the city of Genoa in Italy is also said to be interested.

And there is also a possibility that the match could be played in Abu Dhabi, which would allow teams ample time to prepare for the World Club Cup in the UAE.
