Embattled Florida county elections head reportedly resigns

Broward County elections head Brenda Snipes reportedly resigned on Sunday.

Her letter of resignation was submitted just hours after the recount for the Florida Senate race ended, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

“It is true,” confirmed lawyer Burnadette Norris-Weeks, who works as counsel to the Supervisor of Elections Office. “She did send it.”

Snipes, 75, came under fire after Election Day amid reports of overheating machines and other voting problems in Broward County.

Republican governor Bill Scott — who pulled out a narrow victory on Sunday over Democrat incumbent Bill Nelson — had accused her of incompetence and urged the state’s Department of Law Enforcement to probe what happened at the polls. President Trump on Wednesday called for Snipes’ firing.

“She’s a disaster,” Trump told The Daily Caller. “First thing you do is fire her and her cronies.”

The effective date of Snipes’ resignation is unclear, but Norris-Weeks expects it to be Jan. 2, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

This means Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis would most likely be the one who appoints her replacement.
