Head judge Simon Cowell confirmed the show will be coming to an end in just three weeks time.
"I have a feeling we'll be seeing you in three weeks for the final," he told Dalton as he heaped praise on the solo singer.
But while viewers agreed at how Dalton's performance was, they couldn't believe the final was just three weeks away.
Ten contestants remain in the competition meaning the show will have to have double eliminations every week until the date and still have four acts remaining at the end.
Viewers flocked to social media to share their shock at the early finale, not being able to believe the show is taking place over such a short period of time.
One wrote: "Did he say the final is in 3 weeks? #XFactor"
A second tweeted: "final….. 3 weeks…….. bit early ain't it? #XFactor"
A third added: "Can’t believe final is 3 weeks away. No wonder ratings are down. It’s no longer the big show that takes over autumn and winter.
"Back to basics. Bring back the razzle dazzle. Bring back the proper boot camp. We want to see the journey #xfactor @TheXFactor"
Another asked: "did he just say it was 3 weeks to the final #XFactor"
A fifth said: "#XFactor final in 3 weeks? So if they double evictions every week they will have 4 in final?"
