Woman left "looking like Dumbledore" slams PrettyLittleThing ‘false advertising’

A PrettyLittleThing shopper claims she was horrified after buying a stylish silky grey wig she bought online – only to discover it was "matted and burnt" when it turned up.

Darcey Hemmings, 19, says the wig left her looking like Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter books.

He’s a literary icon, but it’s not how any teenager wants to look on a girls’ night out.

Darcey couldn’t believe her eyes when the ‘hilariously horrendous’ £12 hairpiece arrived and had her pictures taken in the wig, looking severely unimpressed.

She says the wig is "so long all over" but the back "looks like it’s been cut off", adding "it’s so thin as well, there’s more net on there than there is hair."

Bemused Darcey, a beauty advisor from Hartford in Cheshire, vented her feelings on Facebook telling the company they ‘need a f***ing reality check’ in a post shared, liked and commented more than 6,000 times.

The teen was forced to borrow a pink wig from a colleague as she only had two days to sort her outfit once the package had arrived.

And although she did get a full refund from the site, she says the ‘disgusting’ hairpiece has put her off buying wigs and accessories from PrettyLittleThing, claiming their picture was ‘definitely false advertising’.

Darcey said: "It is hilarious but it was just horrendous. It was so funny but it was just annoying.

"Obviously when it came it was completely disgusting. It looked like it had been worn and shoved back in the bag and sent back.

"The wig that I saw in the picture looked alright, but then when it came it was down to my knees, the back of it was singed off. It’s short at the back and it looks like it’s been cut off at the back.

"When I got it out of the bag I was just like – I didn’t want this wig. This wasn’t the one I chose to buy. I bought it because it was a nice one as it looked in the picture.

"People were comparing me to Dumbledore from Harry Potter."

"It was only £12 but it’s not even about the cost – I didn’t care it cost £12. I wouldn’t even care if it felt synthetic, but it’s just how it looked when I got it out of the bag.

"It’s so long all over and when you look at the back it looks like it’s been cut off. It is dreadful.

"It’s so thin as well, there’s more net on there than there is hair. Underneath is really, really bad. It’s really short – it’s like boy’s hair underneath. It’s just so short.

"I put it on at work and they were all saying ‘oh my God, what’s it meant to look like?’

"So I showed them a picture and they were all saying ‘wow, they shouldn’t sell that’. They were just as appalled as I was."

Darcey has vowed that next time she’ll go to an actual wig shop instead of trusting online pictures.

And she does admit that items from PrettyLittleThing have always been good when she had shopped with them in the past.

"This is the first time I’ve bought something where it’s been absolutely appalling. I was just so annoyed," she said.

"On the website it’s grey but this is a wiry blue. It’s awful. It’s so thin as well. It’s the worst quality I’ve ever seen in my life.

"I didn’t have time to order another wig so it’s a good job one of the girls came to my rescue because if not I would have had to sort something out with that other wig and worn it.

"They were quite good at refunding it but they shouldn’t put [the wig] on the website if it’s not going to turn out like that."

PrettyLittleThing declined to comment.
