Prince William Wants Prince Charles to Spend More Time With Grandkids

Prince William wishes his dad, Prince Charles, would visit the Kensington Palace playroom more often. In a new BBC documentary airing on Thursday, November 8, William, 36, revealed he has spoken to his workaholic father about opening his schedule for grandkids Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 6 months.

“When he’s there, he’s brilliant,” William explained in Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70. “But we need him there as much as possible.”

The University of St. Andrews graduate noted that he is working “heavily” with Charles to “have more time with the children” and to slow down the pace at work.

“It’s a perfect time to consolidate a little bit,” William mused. “As most families would do, you are worried about having them around and make sure their health’s OK. He’s the fittest man I know, but equally I want him to be fit until he’s 95. Having more time with him at home would be lovely and being able to you know, play around with the grandchildren.”

William’s younger brother, Prince Harry, echoed the sentiment about Charles in the film. “He does need to slow down, this is a man who has dinner ridiculously late at night,” Harry, 34, divulged. “And then goes to his desk later that night and will fall asleep on his notes to the point where he’ll wake up with a piece of paper stuck to his face.”

Charles wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, gushed that he goofs around with her grandchildren from her first marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles. “He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know making funny noises and laughing, and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him,” the 71-year-old shared in the documentary. “He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices, and I think children really appreciate that.”

Come spring 2019, Charles will have one more grandchild. Harry and Duchess Meghan announced in October that they are expecting their first baby.
