What is Luther, when did it start and when is it back on TV?
Luther is an award-winning BBC detective drama following the troubled and volatile DCI John Luther, played by Idris Elba.
Beginning in 2010, the programme has shown the London detective becoming increasingly consumed by the heinous crimes he's been investigating with the Serious and Serial Crime Units.
The first series saw him form an unlikely bond with seductive psychopath Alice Morgan, played by Ruth Wilson.
He was placed under her spell after finding himself unable to arrest her for the murder of her parents due to lack of evidence.
Their twisted romance formed the basis of the first three series before Alice mysteriously disappeared, presumed dead, after saving Luther from prison.
The gripping drama will return in late 2018, though an exact date is yet to be confirmed.
