Brit schoolboy, 14, dies after plunging 65ft from roof of Costa del Sol shopping centre after ‘suicide pact with girl, 16’

The 14-year-old died after falling 65ft from the top of the centre in Puerto Banus, home to the famous El Corte Ingles department store, around lunchtime today.

A 16-year-old girl who was reportedly planning to jump with him was saved after security guards reached her in time.

The pair are understood to be pupils at a private school in Marbella which has not been named.

Respected local newspaper Sur said they had warned friends what they were going to do on social media and the pals had phoned the department store to alert staff.

The paper said the girl, described as “foreign”, was stopped from jumping after experiencing a split-second of “doubt” as her friend fell to his death.

She suffered a panic attack afterwards and was taken to hospital. Sources close to the investigation confirmed the dead boy was British.

The source said: “The matter is still under investigation but everything is pointing to his death being the result of a suicide.”

The sources were not able to reveal details about the girl’s nationality or comment on whether the pair had told their friends they were about to take their lives and how they were going to do it.

They are understood to have got onto the top floor of the shopping centre, Costa Marbella, via an emergency staircase.
