Memphis Depay has been given a very public dressing down by Lyon coach Bruno Genesio.
The former Manchester United winger was reprimanded in front of all of his team-mates after comments he made following Lyon’s 2-1 win over Angers.
Despite scoring two in two games prior to the Ligue 1 clash, Depay found himself on the bench.
The 24-year-old came on in the 55th minute to assist one goal and score Lyon’s second, sealing the win for the visitors.
But despite his heroics the Dutch star was unhappy at full-time, and voiced his concern.
"I’m sick of hearing every time that I changed the match," Depay said. "I still don’t feel like a respected player.
"I get the job done every time, I’m mentally strong. I have to accept the coach’s decisions. I’m a little disappointed, I think I deserve more respect. I deserve better than that and I should play every game."
His comments didn’t sit well with Genesio, who proceeded to sarcastically apologise to the winger in front of the entire squad.
According to RMC Sport , he said: "I want to apologize to Memphis. I apologize for any time you were late for the training, and I apologize for you wearing shoes from the sponsor instead of the club, knowing that it is forbidden.
"I apologize for your inadequate warm-up in Angers, that you were too late and your lack of commitment. Memphis, to have a good career, you will have to be humble."
The French publication add that the players took the manager’s rant very well.
Lyon’s technical coach reportedly added: "Memphis, to have a good career, you need humility."
Only last month former United team-mate Rooney recalled the time Depay ignored his advice after the winger had been dropped.
"I said, ‘Look, it’s a bit difficult [for you]. Just don’t come in with all your fancy stuff’," recalled Rooney to The Times .
"And he turned up for the reserve game in his Rolls-Royce, wearing a leather jacket and a cowboy hat. And I just thought, ‘What’s the point?’
