Host Phillip Schofield was forced to scream out before the zombie jumped out of the table after his cues were repeatedly missed by the man hiding in the desk.
As they ended the segment on viewers' ghost stories, Phillip began shouting: "Cue Ray!"
Getting progressively louder, his co-presenters Rochelle Humes and Rylan Clark-Neal looked confused at his behaviour.
But when he finally cued the man to jump out and he did, the stunt still went wrong.
While Rochelle did scream in mild terror, Ryan simply sat there confused.
Staring at the man, he barely flinched as he zombie-walked off the set, and then revealed the truth of what he was thinking to Phil.
"I thought you were having a stroke or something," Rylan told him.
Phillip said: "We had every member of the team here going, 'Get him out, get him out, cue him, get him out, get him out!'.
"Eventually it was all down to me who thought to get him out of the box! It was a double barrelled one really because it looked like I'd gone mad!"
Rochelle replied: "I thought they were talking about Rylan."
And Rylan himself said: "I thought they were talking about Ray Quinn!"
