'American Horror Story': Major Spoilers We Already Know About Season 8

Fans are already excitedly looking ahead to Season 8. Of course, as always, the theme (along with everything else) is shrouded in mystery.

But we have a few tidbits ready to share. Here’s everything we know about Season 8 thus far.

Renewed for Seasons 8 and 9

American Horror Story Season 1 | FX

All the way back in January, Deadline reported that American Horror Story was renewed for Season 8 and 9. Clearly, FX has a lot of confidence in the series.

American Horror Story launched the modern limited series revolution and – as evidenced by the most recent installment Roanoke – it remains as vital today as when Murder House stunned audiences six years ago,” said FX Networks CEO John Landgraf. “Each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot.”

No 2018 premiere date yet

Everything comes down to this. The SEASON FINALE of AHS: Cult starts NOW on FX. #AHSCult #AHSFX

Now that Cult is over, we don’t know when we’ll see AHS next, as there is no official release date yet for Season 8. This is par for the course: Summer Upfronts are usually when we learn premiere dates for the upcoming fall season of TV.

But AHS has consistently been aired its first episode of the season in October or (for the last couple of years) in September. We can expect that to continue, as creator Ryan Murphy has expressed his desire to wrap up each season before December, as he did with Cult.

Sarah Paulson is on board

We officially have one member of the AHS family confirmed for Season 8. Leading lady Sarah Paulson, who has gotten juicier roles as the series has progressed, has stated that she’s on board.

The busy actress, who has several projects in the works, has gushed about how much she enjoys taking on her characters every season. She told AdWeek, “There is something so incredibly potent about knowing that every year, you have no idea what you’re going to get to do.”

The theme hasn’t been chosen yet, but we have one hint

No one knows what subtitle AHS Season 8 will have attached to it, and Murphy certainly isn’t spilling yet. Who knows when we’ll learn this — they have taken a couple of different approaches in the past. We do know, however, that it will take place in the “near-distant future.”

With Roanoke, the subject matter was kept under wraps through the season’s marketing campaign. On the other hand, we learned the subtitle Cult and a few other details (including the season’s ties to the 2016 presidential election) in the months leading up to the premiere of Season 7.

But Paulson has a favorite possibility

Though Paulson is in the know, even she has to keep secrets. When asked if she and Murphy had discussed Season 8, she told EW, “I have. I can tell you absolutely nothing.”

Paul added that from their conversations have been “very exciting” for her, and she’s on board with what she has heard from him so far. “I hope it’s the one I hope it is,” she said about her favorite of his concepts. “I’ve heard more than one idea and there’s one in particular I really hope lands.”

A fan theory

Part of the fun of being an AHS fan is speculating what’s to come and how everything connects. Ever since Murphy made it clear that there were distinct connections between seasons, this practice of theorizing has taken off, and there are plenty of ideas floating around about Season 8.

One theory claims that Seasons 1 (Murder House) and 6 (Roanoke) were similar in many ways, as were Seasons 2 (Asylum) and 7 (Cult). If this pattern continues, Season 8 will contain links to Season 3, Coven.

It won’t be like Season 6

One thing we do know definitely about Season 8? Like Cult, it won’t have as much mystery leading up to it as Roanoke did.

Murphy told this to The Hollywood Reporter last year, adding that all of what’s to come has been in the works for a while. “We lay a lot of pipe, and you’ll see it explode in seasons seven and eight. I’ll keep doing it for as long as we have the ideas and the momentum.”
