The Great British Bake Off contestants try to avoid being distracted by Noel Fielding by dodging certain work stations

Contestants on The Great British Bake Off try to avoid co-presenter Noel Fielding, according to the Channel 4 show’s director.

Fielding – who made his name in cult TV series such as The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd – is known to wear flamboyant and eye-dazzling clothing, but his distractions don’t stop there, because in between scenes Fielding likes to mess around with ingredients.

Also, he dabbles in the odd Star Wars joke whilst conversing with the bakers.

Speaking to Broadcast Now, series director Jeanette Goulbourn revealed: “Some hate being at the front or the back; they have this theory that if they’re middle-back, Noel is more likely to come and distract them. But they’ll all be on every bench at some point.”

As theories go, this is certainly an interesting one. Is Noel’s unique flavour of nuisance actually pre-determined or does he just float around the bench’s randomly?

Either way, Goulbourn clearly thinks there’s no escape from him, so the bakers had better just suck it up.

Meanwhile, the comical co-presenter has previously explained how the Bake Off team feared for their careers when they embarked on Channel 4’s first series of the beloved show.

“Last year we were under an enormous amount of pressure to not ruin this sacred show that everyone loved, so we weren’t as worried about the bakers, we were just trying to make sure we didn’t destroy our own careers.

“We were like, let’s get in, and if it doesn’t work, we’ll set fire to the tent and leg it.”

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday (October 30) at 8pm on Channel 4.
