New research by Skyscanner has revealed the cheapest cities in the UK for a weekend break, looking at the prices of a hotel, train and dinner when you’re there.
Train fares are return tickets from London for a family of four.
Birmingham has come out on top as the most affordable place in the UK for a break.
Getting the train there also means that customers can benefit from two-for-one entry to attractions such as the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the National Sealife Centre Birmingham – saving even more cash.
Liverpool came in as the second cheapest city on the list for a weekend break.
There is also a wide range of two-for-one offers for train travellers, including the city’s Hop-On Open Top Tour Bus and the Liverpool Football Club Stadium Tour and Museum.
In third place on the list is Glasgow, followed by Manchester in fourth place and Oxford in fifth place.
Lisa Tyndall, Skyscanner Senior Growth Manager said: “Travelling by train is not only exciting for children but it can also offer great value for parents.
“With half term nearly upon us, we decided to dive into our data to uncover which city offered the best value when travelling by train."

She continued: “Parents on the lookout for ways to entertain their children may find a train trip a great way to keep the kids amused and the costs down.
“Children aged five and under can go free on all trains in the UK, provided they're with a fare-paying passenger, and children aged 5-15 can benefit from great savings, for example, a child fare on a return from Brighton to London is only £24."
Prices were correct at the time of writing.
She continued: “It is also worth parents checking out railcards to secure even more money off.
“Plus travelling by train also opens parents up to some great 2 for 1 attractions at their destinations.”
