Emmerdale star Charley Webb has revealed that she’s ready for Debbie Dingle to move on from the drama surrounding Ross Barton’s acid attack.
After months of lies and secrecy, Friday night’s episode (October 12) saw Debbie finally come clean to the police about how she was partly responsible for Ross’s ordeal.
Debbie hired thug Simon McManus to beat up Joe Tate at the start of the year, but he accidentally targeted Ross in a case of mistaken identity. Much to Debbie’s horror, Simon threw acid in Ross’s face – changing his life forever.
Speaking about Debbie’s big confession, Charley explained: “That story has been a bit muddled and confused. Debbie never ordered the acid, it was just something that Simon did. Even though Debbie did want Joe to get beaten up for what he’d done, that’s a very Dingle thing to do.
“The Dingles get people beaten up all the time. Her dad is Cain and he’s a villain, so it’s natural territory for her for that to happen. But obviously it did go really wrong with the acid.
“I am glad that it’s out now, because I would quite like to put that story to bed now for the character. It should never really have been about Debbie, it should’ve been what happened to Ross, and she was just unfortunately part of that. She didn’t actually order the acid so I do think it’s quite a difficult one.
“A lot of people said: ‘Do you think Debbie should have gone down for it?’ No, but if she had asked Simon to throw acid at Ross, then yes she’d need a comeuppance 100%.
“Debbie has been dragged down that road with Simon, so I’m quite glad that she has now confessed and it’s over.”
Emmerdale fans will see the fallout from Debbie’s confession over the next few weeks, as she anxiously waits to hear what her fate will be.
Asked how well Debbie would cope in jail, Charley replied: “She’d go to prison for a long time and her kids would be outside, so not great. It would be for something that wasn’t really her fault so it would be a bigger kick in the teeth for her. I don’t think she would cope well.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
