When is The Witcher out on Netflix?
As of yet, The Witcher has no confirmed release date but it is expected to drop at some point next year, 2019.
The series, which is based Andrzej Sapkowksi’s incredibly popular fantasy novels, has already been brought to the life in a 2001 film adaption as well as the hugely-successful video-game series.
Netflix vice president, Erik Barmack, said: “Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar. We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Netflix members around the world.”
Mr Sapkowski is joining The Witcher as a creative consultant, underlining that he is excited about being part of the project.
In a statement he said: “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.
“I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
Who's in the cast?
According to reports Henry Cavil's days as Superman are over, however, he's set to jump from one beloved series to another as the fictional protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
Geralt is a witcher, a monster-slayer trained from childhood to fight ferocious beasts. Witchers undergo several mutations in order to grant them the special abilities needed to fight the monsters.
The War of the Worlds star Freya Allan will take on the role of Ciri, fearsome heiress to the throne of Cintra, while Anya Chalotra has been cast as Geralt's chief love interest, Yennefer.
Also joining the cast are Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as Eist, Adam Levy as Mousesack, and Millie Brady as outcast Princess Renfri.
What is The Witcher about?
The Witcher novel saga focuses on a group of supernatural monster-slayers known as Witchers in a medieval fantasy world.
It centres around main protagonist Geralt of Rivia, known as the “White Wolf” due to his long white hair.
Mr Sapkowki’s books have also been adapted into a successful trilogy of video games and reached mainstream acclaim with the 2015 release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
However, The Netflix synopsis makes it clear the series will be based on the books not the games, describing it as "an epic tale of fate and family".
