Britain is preparing for a 12-day Indian Summer and temperatures could reach 25C on Wednesday.
The country is set for its hottest October day in seven years this week.
Warm air from the Canary Islands will bring higher temperatures than Portugal and the Met Office has forecast up to 25C on Wednesday and Thursday – 11C above the average high.
Even the North is due 21C and over 23.6C would beat anything since 29.9C recorded in Gravesend, Kent, on October 1, 2011.
Met Office forecaster Steven Keates said: "Temperatures are going up from Monday, with Wednesday and Thursday seeing 23-24C, with 25C not discounted.
"The South should stay comfortably above average until at least October 18, with the high teens daily and odd days at 20C.
"Tropical Storm Leslie and deep Atlantic lows are bringing tropical maritime air but also windy conditions for the north for much of the next week, with 50mph gusts at times and higher in exposed parts."

London & South East England
By Thursday there will be maximum temperatures of 21C in the region, will will increase to 22C by Saturday.
The week will be largely dry and warm.
Early cloud or mist will clear quickly to leave long sunny spells through the afternoon tomorrow.
Wednesday will also see long sunny spells and will be very warm, the Met Office says.
A little more cloud could develop on Thursday, and on Friday there will be a scattering of showers.
South West England
Any early mist and fog will clear to leave a dry day with some good spells of sunshine tomorrow, and a maximum temperature of 19C.
Temperatures will reach about 20C on Wednesday and Saturday in parts of the region, which will be the warmest days of the week.
The mercury could also climb to around 24C on Wednesday in some areas.
It will be windy on Thursday and Friday, with rain becoming heavy at times on Friday.
East Midlands
Tomorrow, maximum temperatures in the East Midlands will be 19C.
This is set to increase to 20C by Wednesday, dropping a degree or two on Thursday and Friday, before hitting 20C in parts of the region again on Saturday.
The week will be largely dry and warm, with heavy rain expected on Friday.
West Midlands
Tuesday will be a dry day with sunny spells, and a maximum temperature of 19C.
The warmest days of the week will be Wednesday and Saturday, when temperatures will hit 20C in parts of the region.
There is a risk of showers on an otherwise dry day on Wednesday.
It will be windy on Thursday, with rain pushing eastwards.
By Friday conditions will be wet and windy.
Yorkshire & Humber
In north Yorkshire, maximum temperatures will arrive on Saturday, with 19C predicted.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be 17C in the region.
In some parts of south Yorkshire, it will reach 20C by Saturday.
Temperatures will be similar but perhaps a degree cooler in west Yorkshire.
There will be sunny spells on Wednesday as conditions are windy and warm at the same time.
Isolated showers are possible Thursday, the Met Office says, but it will mainly be dry until rain arrives in the evening.
Heavy rain could hit the region late on Friday.
North West England
Tomorrow the maximum temperature will be 18C, and this temperature will continue on Wednesday.
The forecast for Wednesday to Friday will be warm and sunny.
But by Thursday rain will appear and further showers will hit on Friday.
North East England
The North East of England will see temperatures of 17C tomorrow, with bright sunny spells.
Warm conditions will continue on Wednesday and by Saturday, 20C could be recorded in parts of the region.
