While most of us enjoy browsing the diverse range of photos on Instagram , It seems that others are content with viewing the same images every day.
A strange new Instagram trend has emerged, in which users post the same photo every day.
And bizarrely, the image is usually of a fairly dull object – including eggs, Crocs and toasters.
You might think that such monotonous accounts would bore users, but many have racked up thousands of followers.
Speaking to The Atlantic , a teen called Joey, whose account posts the same image of a cartoon cow everyday, said: “If people see an account that is posting a toaster, for example, every day for no real reason, they see it as some ironic and funny thing.”
While the images on these accounts stay the same, the captions are usually different on each photo.
Many accounts appear to use the images as a form of diary.
For example, the @samepictureofatoaster account captions its photos with ‘Day [insert number]’, followed by a question or fact.
To gain followers, these accounts tend to comment on other popular accounts, in a bid to introduce their page to new audiences.
Maybe I’m just not ‘down with the kids’, but this is one trend I simply can’t get my head around!
