A photograph of an adorable toddler travelling on the London Overground prompted an unexpected debate when it was shared on social media today.
The snap shows the child, who is not named, smiling for the camera as they travelled west across the city from Stratford to Shepherd’s Bush.
But when the image was shared on the official Transport for London Facebook page, people were distracted by the fact the boy was standing on his seat.

Outraged Facebook users argued it was wrong to teach the child that it is ‘okay’ to stand on seats with a handful going so far as to criticise the parents.
Another pointed out his actions would have left the seat dirty for other passengers.

One posted: ‘If feet on seats are not acceptable in adults, shouldn’t be accepted in this case either, sorry.’
Another added: ‘No feet on seats whatever age, teach them right from wrong.’

However other Facebook users were left baffled at the anger from ‘sour’ critics.
‘Oh come on its just a young toddler posing like that for a photo! Lighten up!,’ one wrote.
Another reasoned it is unlikely his feet are dirty: ‘Awww hes just a baby, probably taken out of his pram and on the seat, he probably can’t even walk on the pavement properly.’
Transport for London previously said that staff work hard to ‘ensure our trains and stations remain a pleasant environment for everyone’, including keeping feet off seats.

There are also rules in place which mean young people can have their photograph Oyster cards removed if they are found with their feet on the seat.
Speaking last year, Mark Evers, Director of Customer Strategy London Underground, said: ‘Our teams work hard to ensure our trains and stations remain a pleasant environment for everyone.
‘Customers can also help by keeping feet off seats, which we encourage alongside avoiding dropping litter, avoiding unnecessarily pulling the passenger alarm and letting passengers off the train so that delays are not caused for others.’
