Bungalow John Lennon paid £25,000 goes on the market for £7.25million

Imagine living here: Sandbanks bungalow John Lennon paid just £25,000 for in 1965 as a gift to his aunt Mimi that has Italian kitchen, cinema, and indoor infinity pool and is named after hit song goes on the market for £7.25million

  • Lennon purchased the home for Mimi in 1965 for £25,000, a lavish gift for the woman who had raised him
  • The singer-songwriter died in 1980 and Mimi discovered that he hadn’t updated the deeds to the house
  • When Mimi died Yoko Ono took over the property and sold it to a man who later tore the bungalow down

A stunning waterside home on the site of a bungalow John Lennon had bought for his cherished aunt has been put on the market for £7.25 million.

Lennon originally bought ‘Harbour’s Edge’ in Dorset for the woman who helped raise him, his Aunt Mimi.

In 1965 he purchased the house for £25,000. However when the singer-songwriter died in 1980, Mimi discovered her nephew hadn’t successfully updated the deeds to the house.

The outside of the home boasts elegant decking and a luscious lawn, perfect for children to play and for adults to catch the rays

Then and now: John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi is pictured sat on the steps of her new home in the 1960s, which John had purchased for her for £25,000

The view from the sitting area looks out to Poole Harbour in Sandbanks Dorset, where small sailing boats can be seen in the distance

The drive way leading up to the home is complete with palm trees and well kept shrubbery and is neatly graveled

She passed away in 1992 and Yoko Ono took over the property, promptly selling it.

The bungalow was torn down the day after Mimi’s cremation and was then replaced with a new house. The property has just been transformed into a state-of-the-art family home.

With 5,700sq/ft of space, it is more than six times the size of the average home and has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, high-tech lighting, a cinema, engineered parquet wood floor and an Italian Boffi kitchen.

The original bungalow (pictured) was demolished by a property developer after Yoko Ono sold the property after Mimi’s death

Plans of the home show the span of the property which boasts a cinema room, four bedrooms and an infinity pool

The area is one of the most sought after and exclusive in the country, pictured is an aerial view of the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole

One of the main features of the ground floor is an indoor infinity pool which looks out onto a busy part of Poole Harbour.

Outside, the meticulously-landscaped grounds boast serene terracing, a sunken fire pit, hot tub and a jetty which uses wood specially sourced from South America.

The owner has now put it on the market with Savills for £7.25 million. This is while two spectacular homes backing onto Poole Harbour in Sandbanks, Dorset, have already sold this summer for a combined £15.65 million.

The property boast stunning views of the harbour and would be perfect for anyone who likes to be beside the sea

The luxury house was built on a plot of land that the Beatles star had bought for his aunt. The original was bulldozed and has been replaced with the lavish property pictured above

The new owners of the property will be able to enjoy this stunning view every day if they are prepared to pay the £7.25 million price tag

The home, renamed ‘Imagine’, has become available following a no-expense-spared renovation and remodelling.

Keith Fensom, from Savills Canford Cliff office, said: ‘On this side of Sandbanks you get the larger plots and the afternoon and evening sun and it’s also more private than on the beach side.

‘Lennon bought Harbour’s Edge for his aunt who looked after him. The day after she was cremated in 1991, Yoko Ono sold it to a gentleman who demolished it and replaced it with a new home.

As the sun sets on Poole Harbour, the new owner of this home can soak up the tranquil atmosphere the area has to offer

Some of the lighting for the home had been specifically sourced from New York, most of the home has been custom made

‘The current owner has remodelled that house and it was completed in the last year.

‘The owner is a perfectionist and it has been a no-expense spared renovation. Everything is bespoke, the light fittings were from New York and he’s got great taste.

‘The infinity pool overlooking the harbour is amazing – it is like a James Bond home.’

With the hefty price tag of £7.25 million, Imagine is one of the most expensive family homes on the market outside London.

While other properties do sell for more, they are typically country mansions with acres of lands with further properties in the grounds.

The seating area is spacious and the agent letting the property has said that it could be a perfect weekend home for a Londoner

The outside of the property has plenty of space and the new owners could relax outside on a sun lounger while they watch the world go by

The home is on Panorama Road in Sandbanks, which is reportedly one of the most desirable streets in the world.

There are around 30 detached homes on the water in Sandbanks and there are generally always more buyers than sellers.

And this summer there have been two bumper sales on the harbour side of the peninsula.

In July, estate agency Tailor Made sold Western Gate for £7.55 million. The following month Savills sold The Moorings, which was two doors down, for £8.1 million – which is thought to be a record in Sandbanks.

According to Land Registry price paid data, there have been almost 10,000 residential properties which have sold for £1 million or more this year.

One of the many features of the home is this cinema room which comes with plush interiors so you can sit back relax and enjoy a movie

The property has plenty of space for parking and the surrounding area is perfect for long country or coastal drives

The kitchen is fitted with a Italian Boffi kitchen, the new owners will be able to cook up many culinary delights

But outside of Greater London, The Moorings was the second most expensive sale with Western Gate taking third spot.

‘Imagine’ is three doors away from The Moorings and, at £7.25 million, would find itself as potentially the sixth biggest sale of the year outside Greater London if it achieves its asking price.

The house is close enough to be a weekend home for a Londoner, according to Savills’ Keith Fensom, who says nine-out-of-ten buyers tend to come from the capital.

In the evening the property stands out from its counterparts and almost glows. The landscaped grounds boast serene terracing

It’s hard to believe that once upon a time a bungalow had stood in this spot, before it was demolished and replaced by the luxurious new home

Plenty of space for guests: the home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms as well as high-tech lighting and engineered parquet wooden flooring

Each room has electronic blackout blinds which operate silently while the Boffi kitchen is likely to have cost in excess of £100,000.

There is a triple garage, a gym and glass walled sauna, and a security system with remotely accessed infrared CCTV. The state-of-the-art cinema room has Alcantara wall panels, inset lighting and Dolby Sonos system.

Mr Fensom added: ‘It is a busy part of the harbour, which is really nice because you see all of the boats going past – the ferries, the jetskis, the Sunseeker yachts. You don’t mind seeing lots of traffic when it is boats.’
