Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates supporters gave up on the game and kept tabs on the plucky rodent at Wrigley Field.
The Pirates ran out convincing 6-0 winners on the night, but fans appeared to care more about the rat's quest.
A video posted by Will Byington shows the rat taking impressive leap after impressive leap, only to fall just short of escaping his pit.
However, eventually the rodent leaps clear to chants of "you can do it" before dashing off into the night – with the crowd erupting into the biggest cheer of the evening.
Byington wrote: "When the #WrigleyRallyRat gets the biggest cheer of the night?
"I think it was rigged by the piRATes! It’s been a rough game!"
Another simply added: "Long live #wrigleyrallyrat".
A third wrote: "This is beyond priceless #WrigleyRallyRat".
