“Night School” just had the best comedy opening of 2018 so far. Sure, it was “only” $28 million, but that’s better than “Blockers,” which previously had the title with $20.5 million.
PG-13 comedy “Night School” — starring Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish — defeated PG animated “Smallfoot” for the top of the end-of-September box office.
Both had A- CinemaScores, but “Smallfoot” had better reviews from critics. “Smallfoot” even opened on a thousand more screens than “Night School.” No matter. “Night School” aced the opening weekend test.
Warner Bros.
“Smallfoot” picked up an estimated $23 million to take second place at the domestic box office. The only other new release in the top 10 was the R-rated “Hell Fest,” which took No. 6.
Here are the weekend estimates for Sept. 28-30:
1. “Night School” – $28,000,000
2. “Smallfoot” – $23,020,000
3. “The House With a Clock in Its Walls” – $12,510,000
4. “A Simple Favor” – $6,600,000
5. “The Nun” – $5,435,000
6. “Hell Fest” – $5,075,000
7. “Crazy Rich Asians” – $4,150,000
8. “The Predator” – $3,700,000
9. “White Boy Rick” – $2,385,000
10. “Peppermint” – $1,770,000
What’s next?
Get ready for “Venom” and “A Star Is Born” to go head-to-head on Friday, October 5! It should be a big weekend, with much higher numbers than the list above. Who’ll come out on top?[Via: Deadline, Box Office Mojo]Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
