When ABC scheduled four hours of Dancing with the Stars for premiere week, many thought that meant four hours of dancing.
However, Tuesday night’s installment consisted of just five performances.
The reason?
ABC opted to plug Dancing with the Stars: Juniors by announcing with kids would be appearing on the upcoming spin-off.
Yes, the network is actually pressing on with a spin-off despite the parent series slumping almost 40 percent in the rating year-to-year.
But which couples actually had to dance again for a nice dose of safety?
Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber, Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev, Nikki Glaser and Gleb Savchenko, Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten, and Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you here:
Joe “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile and Jenna Johnson managed to evade the danger zone despite their paltry 14/30 score on Monday.
It turns out, viewers voting at home are buying into that smile the former The Bachelorette contestant seems to be donning in every single scene.
It’s frustrating because this is supposed to be a dancing competition, not a popularity one.
In any case, let’s break down those five performances and find out who got the boot from Season 27 first.
Mary Lou Retton and pro Sasha Farber (Cha-Cha)
Mary Lou built on her success from Monday night with a performance that was more polished, and very pleasing to the eye.
The audience lapped it up, and the improvement was reflected in the score.
Judges’ Score: 21/30
Danelle Umstead and pro Artem Chigvintsev (Foxtrot)
This Tuesday night performance from Danelle was much of the same. There was nothing much different from her previous night’s performance, and that could come back to bite her down the line.
Judges’ Score: 18/30
Nikki Glaser and pro Gleb Savchenko (Salsa)
Nikki was very rusty on Monday night, but she was much more at ease during her second performance of the season.
With fast-paced moves, it really elevated her to a new level, but was it too late?
Judges’ Score: 18/30
Alexis Ren and pro Alan Bersten (Jive)
Despite being part of the most random cast ever, Alexis Ren continues to impress. With a flexible body, she owned the ballroom on Tuesday night, and she has a lot left to give.
Judges’ Score: 23/30
Nancy McKeon and pro Val Chmerkovskiy (Quickstep)
Like most of the others, Nancy opted to switch things up in order to prove that she could adapt to the feedback from the judges.
With a perfectly rehearsed routine, she moved up the ranks.
Judges’ Score: 21/30
The audience was given just five minutes to vote for their favorite routines before it was revealed which couple was first out of the battle for the mirrorball trophy.
The unlucky couple was… Nikki and Gleb. It was a real shame because they were the most improved couple night-to-night.
“I hope that I just proved that I did the scariest thing I’ve ever done, and I tried my best,” Glaser said following her elimination. “It was so fun. Thank you for having me.”
What are your thoughts on the first big goodbye?
