A man who has the same name as The Bodyguard star Richard Madden has spent the past three weeks fielding messages from smitten fans on social media.
Newsreader Richard Madden, from East Yorkshire, shares his moniker with the Scottish actor currently playing PC David Budd opposite Keeley Hawes in the BBC political thriller – leading to much confusion among fans.
The hit drama, which comes to an end on September 23, pulled in 6.7 million viewers in the first episode alone, with fans inundating Madden – who coincidentally works for the BBC – with a barrage of tweets.
After one fan mistakenly tagged him in a tweet calling for the actor to be the next 007, Madden replied: ‘I’d love to be James Bond although @_richardmadden might be better suited for the job!’

And replying to another tweet calling the Renfrewshire-born star ‘a stunningly good actor’, he quipped: ‘Not sure about my acting skills but @_richardmadden was great in Game of Thrones (and I’m sure Bodyguard too but I’ve not watched it yet!)

When Twitter user Louise Ritchie said she was hoping for a romantic reunion between the two main characters in this weekend’s finale, he wrote: ‘I’m sure @misskeeleyhawes isn’t interested in “snogging” me… she’d prefer @_richardmadden!’
The Radio Lincolnshire employee even appeared on BBC Look North on Monday morning to talk about his experience.

He explained: ‘It’s led to a little bit of confusion on social media because people are tweeting about the show, copying in my account and thinking that they’re getting in touch with him.
‘A lot of people have been talking about the show and how amazing it is and how great an actor he is, right through to some people saying that I’m the most beautifulman in the world, and then even suggestions that I could be the next James Bond.
‘I’d love to be the next James Bond but I’m fairly certain they’re not looking for a journalist from BBC Radio Lincolnshire. But it’s all just good fun and certainly makes Sunday night a lot more interesting.’
