It’s felt like the sequel that would never happen, but Zombieland 2 is FINALLY going to start filming in January 2019.
Director Ruben Fleischer confirmed the news in an interview with Fandango and revealed that work is already underway on the sequel, which will bring back all of the original stars – Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin.
“I’m thrilled. We’re already actually starting Zombieland. I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true,” he enthused.
“It’s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we’re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we’re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.”
Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese – the duo who worked on both Deadpool movies – are back for the sequel as well, and Fleischer has also teased that we can expect more zombies, saying: “I mean, it’s been 10 years, so who knows what the world will look like at this point?”
Sony have previously confirmed that Zombieland 2 will be released in October 2019, just in time for the original’s 10-year anniversary.
Before we get to see Zombieland 2 though, Fleischer’s next movie Venom is hitting cinemas on October 3 in the UK and October 5 in the US.
Zombieland 2 is set for release in cinemas in October 2019.
