Overnight fame can be a difficult thing for anyone to deal with – especially when it comes from being on a reality TV show.
But the Boulet Brothers are doing things differently with their show Dragula – Search For The World’s First Drag Supermonster.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the shows’ creators and judges, who have been a couple for over 20 years, revealed the steps they take to ensure their contestants come out the other side as unscathed as possible.
“We do keep in contact with them. We take them out for dinner, we try to help them. It’s not like you come on the show and we go, ‘Bye, see ya, we’re going on to the next season’. We stay in contact and try and help, give them advice,” they said.
“A lot of these girls when we find them, they are just raw artists who haven’t toured before or performed, they don’t know what a contract is, we try and help them with all that stuff because we want them to succeed and do well, so we are available to all of the girls.”
They added that they also try and protect the queens from trolling, saying: “When it gets narrowed down to who is going to be on the show, we personally will talk to them before it’s offered to them.

“We tell them, and say, ‘Look, we don’t want you to wreck your life. We need you to know what you’re getting into. People are going to hate you, and you have no control over what your image is going to become.
“‘You might say something stupid off the side on the show, and that becomes your whole personality forever. That’s what people will know you for’.
“That ‘Not tonight’ that Loris said on season one, she probably goes mad hearing that phrase two years later. We’re doing this tour in the UK and the entire crowd is screaming it, so I try and warn them about it. It can be a lot for some people if they are not prepared for it.”
Discussing the fan reaction to season one winner Vander Von Odd, they continued: “Vander really impressed us. She was the best we could hope for, coming out of that season.
“She took the platform and made it her own and really elevated herself and drag. She has her own fandom and really speaks out about social issues that are important to her. We feel like she’s a really great protege to produce.

“It’s really important for us that we put out these drag artists that spread the message of what the show is about, go and get their own fandoms and go out and tour and spread that message. She did a great job of that.
“She became part of the production team, she worked on the production and design for the second season. We also had her around because we wanted her advice. After winning and doing well that year, we wanted her feedback on who should win the second season. We wanted her there to see them compete and get her info as well.
“She saw everything they did, she was there the whole filming process. It was really nice to have that.”
